Ultrasound as a Useful Imaging Modality for Tumor Detection and Staging1
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper represents an overview of the uses of ultrasound in tumor detection and staging. This modality can detect and define the etiology of a mass and is helpful in staging the neoplasm and in streamlining the diagnostic and/or staging workup. Often a mass can be localized and biopsied or aspi rated, leading to prompt diagnosis and treatment. In addition, ultrasound may be used in following tumor progression or regression with treatment as well as secondary effects such as hydronephrosis.

متن کاملPET and MRI-guided focused ultrasound surgery for hypoxic-tissue ablation combined with radiotherapy in solid tumors
Background: The rationale was to develop an ablation approach to destroy regions of tumor resistant to radiation and thus reduce the time required for whole tumor ablation, while improving overall tumor control after radiotherapy. Materials and Methods: The system is composed of a micro positron emission tomography (mPET), 7T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and a customized MRI-compatible foc...
متن کاملUltrasound-guided boost irradiation of tumor cavity after lumpectomy in breast cancer
Background: After breast conserving surgery, most recurrences occur around the primary tumor site. This justifies the use of boost radiotherapy to the primary site of tumor. Surgical scar is not always a good surrogate for the location of the lumpectomy cavity. The aim of this study was to evaluate ultrasonic guidance for detection of the lumpectomy cavity after breast conserving surgery ...
متن کاملPnm-1: Applications of Hysterosonography for The Detection of Intracavitary Uterine Abnormalities
Hysterosonography (SHG) is a new noninvasive technique that involves the slow infusion of sterile saline solution into the uterus during ultrasound imaging. Expansion of endometrial cavity by SHG allows optimal visualization and plays an important role in the evaluation of abnormalities related to the uterus. The most common indications for hysterosonography are: abnormal uterine bleeding both ...
متن کاملDesign and Fabrication of a Four-Dimensional Respiratory Phantom for Studying Tumor Movement in Radiotherapy with Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Introduction: In radiation therapy, determining the location of the tumor accurately during irradiation is one of the most important requirements. However, lung tumors are not fixed in a single location and move during irradiation due to respiratory motion. Due to limitations in assessing such movements, using a lung phantom can be useful and operational for their fast, easy an...
